SOULS LIVE ON
Prologue Part One , Prologue Part Two, Prologue Part Three, Prologue Part Four , Prologue Part Five, Chapter One,
The sun began to climb over the Misty Mountains that surrounded the valley of Rivendell. The trickle of the river Loudwater could be heard throughout the land. Elve's began to wonder around the gardens in their slow, graceful way. The healing house Nurses were out on this glorious morning collecting herbs and plants for various medicines.
Jessi stood at her window, looking out over the roofs of the houses. Her arms were foldd across her chest and the breeze cooled her face. She turned to see Legolas, still sleeping peacefully, a smile on his precious lips. Casting her eyes down, she smiled to herself turning back to the window. All her life, she had been afraid to love, for the simple fact that she didn't want to be hurt. At first Legolas had hurt her, but now, she knew he loved her, more then anything. She could tell by the way he looked at her, with so much love, admiration and affection.
Sudden movement from behind jolted her from her thoughts. Jessi could sense Legolas approaching, just seconds after, she felt his arms crawl around her waist, and his lips press against the bear skin on her shoulder.
'Morning.' He whispered through a stiffled yawn.
'How are you feeling?' Jessi asked, after linkiung her fingers in his.
'Much better now I'm with you.' Legolas caught her mouth in an intense passionate kiss. He felt her muscles momentarily stiffen as he pressed his tongue through her lips and into her mouth. Just after, they were interrupted by a soft knock at the door. Jessi cursed angrily as she stumbled to the door and opened it.
'What?' She questioned impatiently.
'Good morning to you too, Airabeth.' A male voice said. 'You soming riding?'
Jessi shot her gaze to Legolas, then back to the visitor. 'Yeah, maybe.'
Legolas quickly pulled on his tunic and leggings, then joined Jessi at the door. Outside stood a tall male elf, clad in brown, with blonde hair and brown eyes.
'Oh, so your friend finally turned up then?' the stranger asked, a cheeky grin on his face.
'Yes. Legolas, this is Tom.' Jessi's cheeks turned pink. 'I told him about you.'
'Oh, I see. Morning Tom.'
'Same to you Legolas. So you coming riding?'
Both Jessi and Legolas nodded, smiling.
'Excellent, I'll get an extra horse ready. See you in a bit.' With that, Tom turned and walked back down the corridor, whistling.
* * * * *
By mid-morning, Jessi had changed into a green tunic and short shorts, showing oof her perfectly tanned legs. She and Legolas met Tom in the gardens, where he stood with three horses. A grey mare, Scorpia, a black stallion, Flame, and a chestnut gelding, Arthurian. Tom's was Scorpia, Jessi's was Flame, and Legolas', Arthurian.
The three hopped with ease onto their horses and began to ride out into the valley, along the banks of the wide flowing river. In silence, they rode on, and all the time Legolas simply watched Jessi. To him, every single movement she made seemed perfect and he knew now, that he could never love anyone as much as he loved Jessi. But then, he had thought that with Caluviel, and here he was, loving someone completely different.
They followed the river round to the otherside of the valley, then cut across to the houses and gardens. Jessi and Legolas left their horses and Tom, returning to Jessi's room where they sat talking.
'So, whats been happening in the past few days?' Legolas asked, lowering himself into the only chair by the window.
'Quite a bit actually.' Jessi replied, opening the curtain to let a ray of light dance across the room. 'I woke up five days ago knowing exactly where I was. Then, I went to see Elrond and told him everything. About how you turned up in England, you figured out a theory then I died.'
'What did he say?'
'He said that's what happens.' Jessi shrugged, sitting down on Legolas knee, letting him wrap his arms around her waist. 'Our souls live on forever, and swap between the two worlds. The time is different, and for most people the body is different. The thing is, most people have no idea whats going on, and then theres a few who do. And we're them. What happened, when Caluviel died, you wanted to. Well, your mind wanted to, but your body didn't, there fore you didn't start life in England as a baby, but as yourself. It was the same for me.'
'But then why did you change and I didn't? I mean, when I was in england, I was still an elf. In England you weren't an elf, now you are.' Legolas was, it has to be said, slightly confused.
'Elrond doesn't know for certain, I asked the very same thing. I cant explain it very well, it's something like, because I really wanted to be with you and, I think, you wanted to be with me, so when I was tarnsported over here, I was turned into the same race as you. So we could be together.' While she said this, Jessi's cheeks slowly turned pink.
'But what if I stayed in England?' Legolas tightened his grip around her waist.
'I think that, whatever force it is that does this transportation thing, knew that you would come. In a way, I knew too, so did Tom and Elrond. Though I thought you'd be here sooner.'
'Sorry.'
'For what?'
'Not coming sooner.' Legolas whispered in Jessi's ear. 'What else has happened?'
'Erm…I met Tom at my first feast and we became friends. He showed me around and comforted me when I was upset.'
'You were upset? When?'
'Nearly all the time when I was waiting for you. I missed you.' She added, seeing the quizzical look on Legolas' face.
Then Legolas smiled. 'I missed you too.' He placed his lips against hers gently, kissing her lightly. 'so what do we do now?'
'What do you mean?'
'Well, do we stay in Rivendell, go to Mirkwood, Lothlorien, The Shire of Minas Tirith?'
'God, I dunno, what do you want?'
'To be with you.' Legolas whispered, then continued in a clear voice. 'I don't care where I am as long as you're there with me.'
'Legolas, you're so sweet.'
'I can be the complete opposite, but not to you. I could never hurt you even if my life depended on it.'
'I know.' Jessi murmered, as her stomach rumbled, begging to be fed. To this, Legolas chuckled, his eyes shining.
'Shall we get some lunch?'
'Yeh, ok.' Jessi cilmbed off Legolas' knee and helped him to his feet. They walked hand in hand to the hall, where plenty of food was permanently set out.
When they had eaten, they went to Elronds library to talk. The library was full to the brim with books and scripts. Lord Elrond sat at his desk in the middle of the room, his brown hair braided back in the elvish fashion.
'Ah, I was wondering when you would come and see me again, my dear Airabeth.' Elrond said in a wise voice as Legolas and Jessi entered the room. 'And Legolas, welcome, please sit down.' The two sat in separate chairs opposite the old elf. 'Now, what can I do for you?'
'We were wondering if you could give us some advice.' Jessi began.
'Of course, on what?'
'Well,' Legolas continued. 'Jes…I mean Airabeth would like to see Middle-Earth, where should we start?'
'Where should you start? Hm….' Elrond thought for a matter of seconds, then he continued. 'The Shire. In fact, there is something I would like you two to do.' Jessi glanced nervously at Legolas, then back at Elrond. 'Don't look so scared Airabeth. I will let you in on a little secret.
'For the past few years, we have been building, in secret, a new city in the land of Forlond. A place where all races of Middle-Earth, bar orcs, can live in peace and harmony. Soon, the city will be complete. I need some representatives from each major realm to travel to Lothlorien for a council. I was looking for a messenger to go to the Shire. Would you do that for me?'
'Erm…' Jessi glanced at Legolas, who smiled warmly. 'Yes, ok.'
'Excellent! You leave tomorrow.'
