SOULS LIVE ON
Prologue Part One , Prologue Part Two, Prologue Part Three, Prologue Part Four , Prologue Part Five, Chapter One,
During the next three weeks, Jessi and Legolas began to spend more time together. She took him out in the car to various places, introduced him to her best friend Rebecca and made him feel welcome. Legolas could tell that Jessi was doin her best to believe his stories, but, somehow she didn’t fully take in what he was or where he came from. He continued to read the books, and whereever he was, whatever he was doing, all the time he was tryng to remember what happened.
Jessi never got bored of being around Legolas. He was full of stories and ideas. Their friendship grew and grew and they knew that nothing could take that friendship away from them. But all the time, Jessi’s heart began to take control, and her feelings for the elf grew to more then just friendship.
On his fourth week, Legolas began to remember. ‘Caluviel and I,’ He explained to Jessi. ‘we went out riding in the forest of Mirkwood, something terrible happened. A small band of orcs attacked us that’s when it happened. Caluviel was shot by a poisonous arrow. I got her to the healing houses, but they couldn’t do anything for her.’ Legolas bowed his head an paused. Jessi looked at him sorrowfully and placed a gentle hand on his knee. ‘She died, then,’ His brow wrinkled in thought, trying to dig out long forgotten memories. Jessi waited patiently, soothingly rubbing her thumb over his knee. ‘then I remember returning to my room, I was beyond tears and my heart was broken. There are only two ways for an elf to die, of battle wounds, or a broken heart.’
‘So, Caluviel died of battle wounds, and you died of a broken heart.’ Legolas nodded, avoiding Jessi’s eyes.
‘I think, when you die in Middle-Earth, you some how get transported over here, and vice-versa. I think that’s what it is.’
Jessi could feel his unhappiness, so she snaked her arms around his waist. She knew he was going to ask her if she believed him, so she saved him the bother. ‘I had doubts before, Legolas. But now I don’t, you’re not lying, I can tell.’ Legolas let his head fall onto his friends shoulder and sighed.
‘Thank-you, Jessica.’ He whispered.
‘For what?’
‘Everything. I don’t how I would have managed with out you.’
‘Well, anyone would have done the same.’ Jessi had nothing else to say. From then on, silence fell on the two friends, until lunchtime came. They packed some sandwiches and headed into the forest. For 5 or 10 minutes they walked in silence. Until they came to a small flowing stream, where the sun peirced through the trees. Here, they laid down a red blacket and sat to eat some lunch.
After they had eaten. They rested for a while. Legolas sat cross legged on the ground, and let Jessi lie infront of him, with her head on his lap. He intwined his fingers in hers while she closed her eyes. Listening to the birds singing in the trees.
That afternoon, they sat beside the stream, enjoying each others company. They did nothing that day apart from rest. When a chill swept through the forest, they packed their things and headed back through the trees to the house.
On the way back, Legolas slowly slipped his hand into Jessi’s and squeezed lightly. She shot her head round to look at him. He smiled broadly but said nothing. Jessi smiled back and gripped his hand, feeling a strange warmth spread up her arm and through her body.
After throwing away the rubbish from the lunch, Jessi went back outside to see her horses as the sun began to disappeared beyond the west horizon. Legolas stood by Spirits stable, watching Jessi carefully groom Mea. He knew he felt something special for this girl, but he refused to admit it, even to himself.
Whereas Jessi felt for Legolas something she had never felt in all her 21 years. Something she knew she would never feel again. She didn’t see, or hear Legolas approach her, until a hand clasped over hers against the grooming brush. She jumped and turned to face Legolas. Who smiled down at her, his bright eyes looking at her lovingly.
‘May I help?’ He asked.
‘Yeh, course.’ Jessi slipped her hand away from under Legolas. He grasped the brush and began to groom slowly. She watched him for a few moments, then began to plait Mea’s mane. Once the two had finished, they locked the palomino back in her stable, then went to have some supper.
