SOULS LIVE ON
Prologue Part One , Prologue Part Two, Prologue Part Three, Prologue Part Four , Prologue Part Five, Chapter One,
Legolas stood alone over Jessi's grave. Her family had been very kind to him and had insisted on putting his words on her gravestone, which read…
Jessica Parker
May you find peace after death.
He stood in silence with a single red rose in his hand, which he laid on the newly dug soil grave. Standing up, he said clearly 'Hire lle hidh ab'wannath' His language rolled off his tongue 'Good-bye, mela en'coiamin.' Then he realised that she wouldn't have understood him, so he translated. 'May you find peace after death. Goodbye, love of my life.' Then he added in a mere whisper. 'Until our next meeting.' He turned and walked away, never to return.
That days ceremony had been one of tears and sadness for everyone present. The sun was hot and stuffy, making them grouchy and more upset. Legolas had been asked by Jessi's parents to give a speech. He didn't refuse, or prepare a speech. Instead, he stood in church and spoke from his heart.'
'I must admit.' He began in a strong voice. 'That I'm not the right person to be doing this, as I had only known Jessica for four weeks. That short space of time wasn't nearly enough to get to know this wonderful girl. I won't go into details on how we met, but Jessica helped me in the hardest time of my life. Her generosity and helpfulness was that of someone who 1, personally, never thought possible of one lone being.' The crowd of people dressed in black listened intently to Legolas speaking.
'Jessica's beauty shone brightly in everything she did. I sat, in the hospital with her, feeling a sadness and loneliness that I had never felt before, nor will feel again. This amazing girl, Jessica Parker, will, no doubt be sourly missed by everyone. I, for one, will not forget her, even when my time here is up.' Legolas had then placed a hand on the smooth mahogany coffin and whispered 'Amin mela lee, Jessi. I love you, I always will.' Then, he had stepped down from the front and resumed his seat next to Rebecca and Jessi's father, who thanked him for his kind words.
Legolas hadn't really taken heed to what happened next. Tears had fallen from his eyes when the wooden coffin had been lowered into the ground. Then the ceremony had ended and everyone apart from Legolas had gone to the church hall for food and drink.
When he arrived back at Jessi's old house, he went straight to the kitchen, scribbled a quick note to Rebecca asking her to look after the horses, then took the sharpest knife from the rack. As he walked past the stables, Legolas ignored the nickering and neighing. All his thought was bent to his task. He hoped his theory was right, but even if it wasn't, he didn't want to go on without Jessi by his side.
After a short walk, he came to the stream where they had had lunch just a week ago. Legolas stood for a while, an image of Jessi's face floated across his vision, he heard he sweet voice and felt her soft touch. He whispered 'I'm coming, Jessi'. Then he lifted the knife and without hesitation, he brought it crashing down, piercing his heart.
* * * * *
The sound of trickling water could be heard, and the smell of roses scented the room. Bright rays of sunlight shone through the window on the west, onto the fair face of an elven prince, Legolas. Slowly, his eyes fluttered open. He saw a white ceiling above and a shadow of a figure closed in on him, placing a damp, cold cloth over his forehead. Reluctantly, he looked into the face of the figure. They had light blue eyes and long fair hair. A pretty face, thought Legolas didn't notice this.
'Where I am?' He asked quietly, slightly struggling to get the words out.
'You are in the second in Rivendell, city of Lord Elrond Halfelven. I am Thalibaliel.' The nurse replied in a soft voice, Legolas groaned and closed his eyes. 'Come now, prince Legolas. This isn't much different to Mirkwood.'
'It's not that.' All his thought were on Jessi and his strange few weeks in a place called England. His stomach tightened and he began to feel sick.
'Then what is it?'
'What happened? Last I remember I was in…' He paused all ready to say England. 'Mirkwood.'
'I don't know, I found you by the river when I was out collecting Athelas plant.' Thalibaliel pulled down Legolas' white feather duvet to just below his stomach. She placed her hands on the left of his chest and gently released pressure onto his skin. He watched he in confusion. 'Does this hurt?'
'No.'
'Good.' Then Thalibaliel straightened, a satisfied look on her face. 'In that case, there is some one to see you. Shall I show them in?' Legolas nodded and lifted himself into a sitting position while Thalibaliel left the room.
A few moments later, a girl entered wearing a long silver dress, and a hooded dark green cloak. The hood was pulled up, all Legolas could see was a nose and lips.
'Who are you?' He asked.
'I am Airabeth. Le ab'dollen ~you're late~.' The girl replied, seating herself on the edge of the bed.
'Excuse me?'
'I had expected you sooner. Nae Saian Luume, Legolas ~it has been too long>' Airabeth whispered, slowly pushing back her hood, to reveal dark green eyes and long brown hair. Legolas' eyes widened in shock. He placed his hand over hers and felt a warmth spread through him, even warming his heart.
'Jessi?' Legolas looked at Airabeth through squinted eyes, his heart beating rapidly against his chest. She just smiled and cast her eyes down.
'I was Jessi, well, in a way I still am. But everyone here knows me as Airabeth, elf maiden of Rivendell.' Legolas gently reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. To reveal their pointed tips. As realisation dawned on his face, tears of happiness swelled in his eyes. He smiled widely and flung his arms around the girl, holding her tightly. She returned his embrace. 'Your theory worked.'
'So if it worked, where will Caluviel be?' Airabeth's smile disintegrated at the mention of Caluviel's name. Legolas laughed. 'I'm over her. It's you I want.' Before she could say or do anything, he placed his lips over hers and kissed her passionately. After a moments hesitation, she returned the kiss. 'it's been you I've wanted since I first laid my eyes on you.'
'Come on,' Airabeth gently prodded Legolas in his well toned stomach. 'It's nearly time for dinner with Elrond, so get your lazy arse out of bed.'
Legolas chuckled then said, 'That's the girl I know.' Then his face wrinkled in confusion. 'am I to call you Airabeth, or Jessi?'
'Call me Jessi if you like. I don't mind.'
'Ok, so when did you learn elvish?' Pulling on a pair of leggings and a tunic.
'It came naturally to me when I woke up.' Jessi shrugged as if it wasn't such a big deal. 'You're going to have that scar forever, you know.' She said, look at the left of his chest.
'So? Nobody's going to see it apart from you.' Legolas winked cheekily. Which meant receiving a playful slap from Jessi. 'What was that for?' He asked rubbing his cheek.
'Don't be so cheeky.' Legolas smiled and a wild light shone in his eyes. He lunged forward, but Jessi was too quick for him and spun on her heel running away from him and laughing. He chased her to the door, then caught up with her and wrapped his arms around her waist. His fingers danced across her stomach, tickling her and making her squirm. A satisfied smile spread across his face, so he stopped and rested his head on her shoulder. 'You're a meanie.' She whispered, warn out and breathing heavily.
'I know.' Legolas mumbled, his warm breath against Jessi's neck sent shivers down her spine. Then suddenly, she felt his soft lips against her skin, kissing her neck affectionately. 'Never leave me again.' He whispered, gently rubbing his nose u her cheek. Laying his hand under her chin, he brought her head round to face him. Then, he caught her lips in a searing kiss, that made both of their knees feel weak. He lifted one hand from her stomach and placed it on her hip, then slowly moved his other hand up to just below her chest.
Jessi pulled away from his kiss and placed her hand in his. 'Come on, dinner will be starting at any moment.' Linking her fingers in his, she led him away from the healing house, over a bridge where a fast flowing river passed through the valley. Legolas didn't take in any of his surroundings, he just watched Jessi, glad to be back with her. They reached a large wooden door, which they walked through.
It was a large room, where music was being played by the musicians at the far end of the hall. Countless torches were lit and spaced evenly around the walls. Beneath these, were benches and tables of food, plenty for all. Many Rivendell elves were standing, eating, drinking and dancing around the room. When they entered, nearly everyone turned to look at them, then went back to what they were doing. Jessi coughed timidly and soothed out her dress. They walked over to the nearest table which was covered in different fruits, apples, oranges, pears and many others. Jessi picked up a lovely dark red apple, only to have it snatched back off her.
'Hey, meanie. Let me have it.' she said turning to face Legolas, who handed her a golden green apple which she looked at in disgust.
'The green ones are juicer and sweeter.' Jessi sighed and took the apple, not convinced. She bit into it and chewed loudly. 'What do you think?'
'S'ok.' After they had finished eating , Legolas whisked Jessi onto the dance floor. He held her tightly, burying his face in her long silky hair that smelt of roses and woodland. When they had danced for a while, Jessi yawned widely.
'You're tired?' Legolas whispered, running his hand across her forehead.
'Yeah, come on.' Jessi took hold of Legolas' hand and led him down many twisting corridors, until they came to a small wooden door. As Jessi looked up and down the corridor, she slowly pushed the door open, which groaned on its hinges. To enter the room, they had to duck through the door. The room was well lit by oil lamps and candles. The white silk curtain blew slightly from the breeze coming through the window. A large bed lay immediately in front of them, by which was a make up table. To the left of the door was a wooden cupboard and to the right, was a full length mirror. Though the window was open, the room was warm and cosy.
Once Legolas had taken everything in, he wrapped his arms around Jessi's waist. She turned in his arms and splayed her hands over his chest. 'Do you think they miss me?' She whispered.
'I'm sure they are missing you.' Legolas replied, realising she was talking about her family and friends back in England. 'Everyone cried at your funeral.'
'Did uncle Ian?'
'Yes he did?'
'Even you?' Jessi slowly raised her eyes to meet Legolas' gaze.
'Especially me. Your parents asked me to make a speech. I may have acted calm, but inside I was hurting so much.' Legolas then recited his speech with his eyes closed and head bowed.
'That was beautiful Legolas.'
'It came from the heart.' Then Legolas ran his thumb across Jessi's lips, feeling the smoothness of them. He leaned in and kissed those precious lips warmly.
Jessi then broke the kiss and ordered Legolas to face the wall so she could change. She quickly shed her dress and pulled on a short skimpy, satin night dress of dark blue. While she did this, Legolas pulled off his tunic and folded it neatly on a chair, then he took off his leggings, so all he wore was a pair of shorts. They both then climbed into Jessi's bed after turning off all but one lamp. Legolas cuddled up to his love, snaking his arms lovingly around her waist. Jessi reached out and turned off the last lamp, the room fell into darkness.
'Comfy?' Legolas asked through a yawn.
'Yes.'
'Not squashed?'
'Nope.' She replied sleepily, already beginning to drop off.
'Jessi?'
'Hmmm?'
Legolas lowered his voice to a soft whisper. 'Can I keep you?'
'Mmmm.' Jessi only just caught what he said before falling into a deep sleep.
